The UK's National Allotments Week is 13th - 19th August.
National Allotments Week started in 2002 as a way of raising awareness of allotments and the role they play in helping people to live healthier lifestyles, grow their own food, develop friendships and bolster communities.
Allotments are a great hobby for people of any age. They’re cheap, you get healthy exercise without having to pay for a gym and you get to eat healthy fruit and vegetables without all those pesticide residues. You also come away with the knowledge that you grew them all from scratch yourself!
PRODUCTS
If you are lucky enough to have your own allotment we suggest the following products...
- VegeGrow Topsoil - Screened topsoil mixed with organic vegetable compost.
- Horse and Chicken Manure - Well rotted spent mushroom compost that your veggies will love. Can be used a mulch or mix into sad soil.
-
Multi Purpose Compost - mix into poor soil to add a much needed boost of nutrients. We advise you do this twice a year for a good yield.
-
Landscaping Bark - perfect for suppressing weeds around you veg and plants, whilst also adding nutrients as it rots down.
-
Hardwood Chips - put down around your plot for a tidy finish and avoid muddy areas, also suppresses weeds!
-
Anti-Weed Membrane - don't forget to add a membrane underneath your bark to ensure those weeds are kept at bay.
