A partial collapse has occurred overnight to one of Chester’s oldest and most controversial buildings Dee House.
Dee House located in Little John Street, Chester, is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. The house is built on the southern part of the site of Chester Amphitheatre.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire Service said “At 2.10am we received a call to a partial building collapse in Chester City Centre, it is not believed that anyone was injured in the collapse as the building had been locked down in a state of disrepair for many years.
Cheshire Police have confirmed that roads in the area were closed as a precaution of further collapses, but have since reopened.
Big Heritage’s Dean Paton commented “This is a very sad moment for historical architecture in the City, whilst I admit it wasn’t the prettiest building I am absolutely horrified that it’s been left to simply collapse in this way! To those who say it needs knocking down in some way to uncover the Roman Amphitheatre below, there’s nothing under there anymore anyway!”.
A spokesman for the controversial group Dig Up Deva Adam Dandy commented “Thank god for that, this now gives us the perfect opportunity to excavate the other half of Chester’s Amphitheatre, after all.. it’s what the Roman’s would have wanted!”.
